Heading into St. Louis Ryan Villopoto led the series by just four points. While RV2 would leave STL still on top, the rest of the top five all changed positions and tightened up the points even more. There are now just 20 points separating the top five with three races to go.
The Lites class kicked of the night with a Blake Baggett holeshot. Justin Barcia made a quick pass, followed by Ryan Sipes. The two traded passes for a while and resulted in Barcia pulling away. Sipes seemed to get tired and Baggett began to pressure him for second. The Pro Circuit rider couldn’t get by and Sipes found his momentum again and pulled away safely in second. Meanwhile out front Barcia stretched out his lead and took the win. Dean Wilson, Barcia’s main opponent for the title, got a bad start but quickly worked through the pack and finished fourth. There are now 20 points between the two as they head into the season finale in Las Vegas to decide the title. ONE’s Hunter Hewitt put in another solid effort finishing seventh on the night.
James Stewart has had a rough season and was due for a win. The San Manuel rider hadn’t won a race since Anaheim 2 in February and came into the Edward Jones Dome with something to prove. Stewart pulled into the lead aboard his YZF 450 with specially designed ONE graphics on the second lap and never looked back. ONE’s Ivan Tedesco pulled another holeshot but dropped to second when Stewart made the pass. Ryan Dungey worked his way into second followed by Reed and Villopoto. Reed landed on a Tuff Block that was laying across the track which allowed Villopoto to get by into third. Everyone began to settle into position for the remainder of the race with Stewart on top followed by Dungey, Villopoto, Reed and Canard rounding out the top five. The series heads back to the west coast next week in Seattle, WA.
