USA….USA….USA!! Team USA wins again!
Team USA secured the Chamberlain trophy for the sixth consecutive year and for the 21st time over-all this past weekend in Colorado. An estimated 40,000 fans watched Ryan Dungey, Trey Canard and Andrew Short represent the United States as they captured the team event. The Motocross-of-Nations event is the only time of the year that the importance is placed upon success as a team rather than the individual accolades that each racer seeks during the racing season.
Moto 1 of the weekend featured riders competing in the MX1 and MX2 classes. In this moto team USA would be represented by Ryan Dungey and Trey Canard. Dungey secured the lead on lap number two and other than a brief challenge from Italy’s Antonio Cairoli was not challenged again. Trey Canard rode awesome after tangling with Zach Osborne in the first turn. Canard re-mounted and battled back against the field of 450 and 250 riders to claim twelfth by the end of the moto. Ryan Dungey gave Team USA the first moto win ahead of Italy’s Cairoli and Australia’s Brett Metcalfe. Jonathan Barragan from Spain and Gautier Paulin from France rounded out the top five.
The top five team standings after moto one was Team USA in first followed by Germany, Belgium, Australia and Spain.
Moto 2 would have the “Open” class and the MX2 class together. Team USA would be represented by Andrew Short on the Open (450) bike and Trey Canard would be racing back to back motos on the MX2 (250)bike. “Shorty” continued his hole-shot streak and lead the class until coming together with an ultra aggressive Ben Townley who was representing Team New Zealand. Andrew re-mounted his Honda outside the top 20 but rode very hard to secure every point possible and worked his way back to thirteenth position. Trey Canard started fifteenth on his 250 Honda and was able to battle against the world’s best riders to claim the seventh place spot by the end of the moto.
Ben Townley was able to hang on to the first position followed by American rider Kyle Regal who was representing Team Puerto Rico and Germany’s Ken Roczen rounded out the top three on his 250 Suzuki. Clement Desalle from Belgium and Max Nagl from Germany rounded out the top five. Desalle competed at the Unadilla round of the US series earlier this season and showed great speed.
The top five team standings after moto two was Germany in first followed by Team USA, Belgium, Italy and Great Britain.
The final moto as always is an extremely pressure packed event. The top three country’s points are very close so the pressure on the riders is unreal! The final moto would face the MX1 and “Open” class racers against each other. The start would be critical because all of the riders are on big bikes with the capability of getting a great start. The crowd at Lakewood Colorado’s “Thunder Valley” erupted when Team USA’s Andrew Short and Ryan Dungey rounded turn one in the first and second positions. Ryan Dungey worked his way past Andrew Short without much of a battle. The Team USA riders did not race each other hard and after a long season of racing each other very aggressively worked together and finished the final moto in first and second position. Belgian Rider Clement Desalle raced to the final spot on the podium for the third moto ahead of Italy’s Antonio Cairoli and Australia’s Brett Metcalfe.
The final standings for the 2010 Motocross-of-Nations event was Team USA in first, Belgium in second and Germany in third. Great Britain and Italy rounded out the top five.
Ryan Dungey was the over-all winner in the MX1 class while German sensation Ken Roczen claimed the MX2 class and the “Ricky Carmichael” award given to the youngest participant at the event (16) and Belgium’s Clement Desalle was the individual winner in the “Open” class category.
ONE Industries would like to congratulate all of the participants at this year’s event and especially to Team USA for keeping the Chamberlain Trophy on American soil for yet another year. A special thanks to Ryan Dungey and to Trey Canard for choosing ONE Industries graphics for this amazing event and for the entire season.
