Atlanta Race Report

What a night of racing!  Since the series has headed to the East Coast the action continues to keep us on the edge of our seats in the Lites Class.  With only 8 weeks remaining until the final battle, you better purchase those tickets for Vegas now because the points chase is on.

Lites Main Event

The Lites Class has been anything but dull.  The young talent, thirst for victory, and archrivals keep it exciting.  Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Dean Wilson won the Spike Holeshot and managed to hold the lead for the bulk of the Main Event.

Where was Pourcel you ask?  The Frenchman was giving the crowd a show along with GEICO Powersports Honda’s Justin Barcia.  The two rivals exchanged blocks, battles, and positions all night until Barcia went down.

Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Austin Stroupe rode a solid second all night, while teammate Brett Metcalfe had his eyes set for a podium finish.  The Georgia Dome took its toll on Wilson, who faded back to fourth.  Pourcel aggressively fought his way forward and eventually overtook the Suzuki youngster for his second victory this season.

Supercross Main Event

As mentioned earlier, this was a great night of racing.  Dungey and RV went into the night tied for the points lead and one of them would come out on top.

The #5 Rockstar Makita Suzuki clutched the Spike Holeshot Award.  Dungey and Villopoto captivated the Dome as they waited for someone to pull ahead or make a mistake.  And that’s exactly what happened when they came up on lapped traffic.  Lappers, please know that the blue flag means, ‘get out of the way’ and not ‘block the leaders.’  Villopoto made a slight miscalculation in the rhythm section, then tried to triple, came up short, and crashed.  He ended up pushing his bike to the mechanic’s area and handed Dungey a 23 point lead.

Honda Red Bull Racing’s Trey Canard was looking comfortable on the 450.  It’s only his second race and he pulled off a podium finish.  Meanwhile, teammate Davi Millsaps rounded up the podium in third.
